2025 Nissan Murano: Facts, Figures, And A History Lesson
October 17 2024, Centennial Nissan
Nissan unveiled its fourth-generation Murano at the company's U.S. headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, with Brie Larson performing the honours. The 2025 Nissan Murano arrives in Canada with all-wheel drive on all three models – SV, SL, Platinum – along with a turbocharged powerplant cranking out 241 horsepower, dual 12.3-inch displays, and a raft of available futuristic features.
Muranos have always featured unique designs, and this fourth version is no different. You won't mistake the Murano for anything else on the road. That distinctiveness has always been a huge part of the Murano's success. And yes, the Murano has been very successful in the Canadian market.
More than two decades ago, Nissan's California studios produced an innovative look for a five-seat midsize SUV that. After being unveiled at the 2002 New York International Auto Show, the first-generation Murano went on sale in mid-2002 as a 2003 model. The first Murano ran through the 2007 model year before taking one year off.
The second version of the Murano was introduced at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show. On sale as a 2009 model – and running through the 2014 model year – the second-generation Murano was the only Murano to also be offered as a two-door convertible, albeit not in the Canadian market.
Unlike the first and second versions of the North American-market Murano, Nissan's third-generation Murano was built in the United States, not Japan. Nissan first showed the third-gen Murano at the 2014 New York International Auto Show and was built initially in Mississippi before production moved to Smyrna, Tennessee. The third-gen Murano completed a 10-year run from the 2015 to 2024 model years.
Although the first two Murano generations were successful, it was the third-gen Murano that really took off. After averaging 4,520 annual Canadian sales between 2004 and 2014, Murano volume ballooned in 2015 with the model's first five-digit sales year – 10,128 – before jumping another 37% in 2016 and another 9% in 2016.
Nissan Canada sold 64,321 Muranos between 2015 and 2019 and has sold 139,518 Muranos since 2004.
