Meet The Nissan SURF-OUT Electric Truck Concept
December 01 2021, Centennial Nissan
If the future of the auto industry is going to be electric, the future of pickup trucks must be electric, as well. This is the 2021 Nissan SURF-OUT Concept, an EV pickup truck concept unveiled by Nissan at the end of November.
The SURF-OUT was actually one of four Nissan concepts introduced to showcase two different aspects of Nissan's plans: the first being design language; the second being all-solid-state batteries. Nissan's plan is for solid-state batteries to revolutionize the electric vehicle industry as thinner, lighter, more affordable, and more efficient alternatives to the large, heavy, costly batteries in EVs today. Nissan is spending USD $17.6 billion over the next five years to further develop its EV lineup and bring ASSBs to market.

But the Nissan SURF-OUT is so much more interesting than its battery alone. Likely sized to slot below the Frontier (if Nissan were to produce the SURF-OUT), this truck incorporates an e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system, an onboard generator, and a cab that can be opened to the bed area. And just to make sure everybody knows this is a concept, the tailgate can display messages to traffic that's behind you.
The 2021 Nissan SURF-OUT Concept won't be on sale tomorrow (or next year), but you'll notice the inspiration for this vehicle in Nissan vehicles of the future. Of that we can be sure.
