We can't say we're surprised.
Even during the previous-generation Rogue's tenure from 2014 through 2020, the best-selling Nissan's fuel economy was impressive. But the all-new 2021 Nissan Rogue takes everything to another level: there's a more technologically advanced all-wheel-drive system, more power, and significantly better acceleration.

AWD. Power. Acceleration. These are the kinds of things that work in direct opposition to efficiency.
And yet we did a round trip from the north shore of PEI to the south shore (near Crapaud) and back on a wintry Wednesday evening and clocked 6.7 L/100km. That's actually half a litre better than the Rogue's official highway fuel economy rating.
Granted, fuel economy results always come with plenty of qualifying statements.
- • Your mileage will vary.
- • Every drive is different.
- • Every driver is different.
- • There were no passengers in the vehicle besides the driver.
- • The Rogue's Intelligent all-wheel-drive system was set to Eco, which attempts to minimize power transfer to the rear axle.
- • It's winter, but relatively mild. The temperature was hovering right around 0°.
- • This rural Island drive was completed with virtually no traffic, no overtaking, and hardly any stops.
In other words, most factors were working in the Rogue's favour. Still, 6.7 litres per 100 kilometers! That's an astonishing result for an all-wheel-drive SUV of this size. And it represents remarkable progress. A decade ago, the 2011 Nissan Rogue AWD was rated at 10.6 L/100km in the city and 9.1 L/100km on the highway. The result was a vehicle that, according to Natural Resources Canada, would cost $35 more each month to fuel than the new Rogue.
The new Rogue has cut fuel costs by 17% over a decade, increased power by more than 6%, and decreased CO2 emissions by 15%.
Car shoppers often wonder how they'll feel about an SUV fuel bill. In the Rogue, you don't have to wonder. The Rogue AWD is actually rated to use less fuel than the 2021 Toyota Camry XLE AWD.
This is our best seller, and one of the most popular SUVs in Prince Edward Island. The second-gen Rogue that ran from 2014 to 2020 was a huge hit across Canada, and we knew that Islanders (especially current Rogue owners) were going to be anxious to get their hands on the very first copies of the new model.
And we did indeed let customers get their hands on the very first Rogues we received. But now we've done something a little different by taking delivery of our very own 2021 Nissan Rogue, a Rogue that we're going to put through its paces with a full winter test. We've heard great things about the Rogue, so we want to experience it for ourselves and share everything we learn with you.
It's an SV with all-wheel drive in Pearl White with the Graphite interior. That's the middle of three Rogue trim levels optioned to include the $2,300 multi-mode AWD system. The final tally is $36,128 including freight and pre-delivery inspection.
