Things We Love About Our All-New 2021 Nissan Rogue SV, #5: Around View Monitor
March 22 2021, Centennial Nissan
At Nissan, introducing revolutionary technology and industry firsts is a major part of the company's DNA. That's why Nissan delivered the first mass-market electric car. That's why Nissan brought the first four-door midsize pickup to market. That's why the wild GT-R uses an all-wheel-drive system with an independent rear-mounted transaxle.
And it's why Nissan was first to market with a 360° Around View Monitor in 2007. In fact, the first Around View Monitor in North America belonged to the EX35, a small crossover in Nissan's upmarket Infiniti range.

By 2012, the Around View Monitor was available in the first-generation Rogue, albeit only in the top-of-the-line SL model. That's where the Around View Monitor stayed until 2014, when the Around View Monitor began to be offered in different packages in the SV: Premium Package, Family Tech Package, and Technology Package.
All of that changed with the launch of the all-new, third-generation 2021 Nissan Rogue. The Intelligent Around View Monitor is now standard not just on the top-of-the-line Rogue Platinum but also on the Rogue SV, which starts under $32,000.
But what is an Around View Monitor, why is it better than a conventional backup camera, is it the only tech included in the Rogue SV, and can't you get a 360° camera from any Rogue competitor, too? You have questions – we have answers.
WHAT IS AN AROUND VIEW MONITOR?
Think of it this way: Nissan takes the images from four cameras positioned around the vehicle and compiles it, via a processing unit, into one bird's eye view image on your centre screen.
WHY IS IT BETTER THAN A NORMAL REARVIEW MONITOR?
Good news: you still have your rearview camera. Nissan projects the display for the Around View Monitor alongside the rear view on the Rogue SV's 8-inch centre screen. Better yet, you can cycle through alternative views from the front, side, and rear of the vehicle. That means when you're parking in the garage, you can get a clear view not just of the bike on the floor behind you but also any car or wall that might be alongside.
WHAT OTHER HIGH-TECH FEATURES ARE INCLUDED IN THE ROGUE SV?
Every 2021 Rogue comes standard with Safety Shield 360 (intelligent emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear intelligent emergency braking, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, and rear sonar.
The Rogue SV adds ProPILOT Assist (which incorporates adaptive cruise control and lane keeping functionality to assist the driver), dual panel panoramic sunroof, WiFi hot spotting capability, remote start (also enabled through your phone), and the Intelligent Around View Monitor.
The Rogue Platinum kicks it up another notch with ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link, a 12.3-inch digital dashboard, 10-speaker Bose audio, front and side sonar in addition to rear sonar, a 9-inch centre screen, heads up display, and wireless Apple CarPlay.
DO COMPETITORS HAVE AN AROUND VIEW MONITOR?
Yes, and no. Some, though certainly not all, competitors offer a similar system, but the key difference is the Rogue SV’s price point. The Around View Monitor is now included in the Rogue SV that starts at just $31,998. (All-wheel-drive models like our Rogue start at $34,298.)
At Toyota, the 2021 RAV4 doesn’t include the brand’s Bird’s Eye View Camera until you climb to the Limited model, which starts at $41,690. On the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe, not until you upgrade all the way to the Ultimate Calligraphy model (at $47,499) do you get the Surround View Monitor. To get Volkswagen's Area Viw 360, you'll need to move up to the Tiguan Highline at $40,195. There’s no 360° option on the Subaru Forester or Ford Escape. You get the picture – it's generally an exclusive item. Just not with the Rogue.
Of course, we're obliged to include the fine print. "Parking aid/convenience feature. Cannot completely eliminate blind spots. May not detect every object and does not warn of moving objects. Always check surroundings before moving vehicle. Not a substitute for proper backing procedures. Always turn to check what is behind you before backing up."
This is our best seller, and one of the most popular SUVs in Prince Edward Island. The second-gen Rogue that ran from 2014 to 2020 was a huge hit across Canada, and we knew that Islanders (especially current Rogue owners) were going to be anxious to get their hands on the very first copies of the new model.
And we did indeed let customers get their hands on the very first Rogues we received. But now we've done something a little different by taking delivery of our very own 2021 Nissan Rogue, a Rogue that we're going to put through its paces with a full winter test. We've heard great things about the Rogue, so we want to experience it for ourselves and share everything we learn with you.
It's an SV with all-wheel drive in Pearl White with the Graphite interior. That's the middle of three Rogue trim levels optioned to include the $2,300 multi-mode AWD system. The final tally is $36,128 including freight and pre-delivery inspection.
